It has truly been a pleasure to help them during their difficult time. I have also met many of the other drivers and they are the finest people you could ever know. It is an honour to be part of this special group.
Are you seeking meaningful ways to give back to your community? Do you have time, a flexible schedule and a desire to help men, women and children living with cancer get to their treatments?
If so, we would love you to join our team of wonderful volunteers!
By joining our team of volunteer drivers and dispatchers, you’ll be part of the backbone of our society.
Gaining a sense of accomplishment, experiencing something new, or challenging new horizons are all reasons volunteering can be a very rewarding experience. Most importantly--and aligned with our vision: a ride for all cancer patients to care--the impact you’ll have will play a large part in bettering the lives of those in need in your communities.
Become a Community Champion
Volunteering Changes Lives. It takes a team of dedicated volunteers to make this FREE cancer patient transportation program a reality. The service we provide could not happen without the generous and committed efforts of more than a hundred dedicated volunteers who donate their time to field ride requests and use their own vehicles every day (drivers receive $0.50/km as reimbursement for vehicle use). Become a Volunteer Cancer Drivers Society Member and be a part of meaningful and life-changing work every day.
Dispatchers ensure that patients get matched with the appropriate drivers in their area. This role is essential with the VCDS and welcomes new dispatchers. Volunteer Today!
Communities in Need
As we grow and our services become more in-demand, so does our need for more cancer patient drivers and dispatchers. We are currently in need of more volunteers in: North and West Vancouver, Vancouver, Richmond, Burnaby, New Westminster, Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Delta, Surrey, White Rock, Langley, Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, Mission.
When I call patients to confirm that I have received their ride requests, they are so happy to hear from me and they said that they are very grateful for us dispatchers and drivers. Volunteering for VCDS is a very fulfilling job, always looking forward to talking to all the patients and our dedicated drivers.
I was extremely fortunate to have the best care possible when I went through my cancer treatment. As I took advantage of all the treatments and programs offered to patients, I definitely wanted to give back as much as I could to help others going through cancer.
Having many volunteer jobs in the community over the years, this one is the best I've ever had. The people I meet are wonderful.
I wanted to pay back, VCDS drivers can be very helpful when cancer patients go-to treatment for the first time and don't know where to go.
One of my goals as a VCDS driver is helping children's parents feel at ease knowing they can count on the VCDS for rides to the Cancer Clinic.
